Cougar FAQ – Questions And Answers About Cougars

Dating Hot Cougars
It’s time we covered a few common questions asked by older women that are new to the world of finding love.

If you think you’ve got a bit of brushing up to do on the basics of being a cougar, this page should help! So, let’s get to it, shall we?

What is a cougar?

Interesting question! A hard one to start off on, and the simple answer is that there’s no clear definition of the word ‘cougar’.  What we will say is that it typically refers to a woman between the ages of 30 and 45 that seeks relationships of both a romantic and sexual nature with younger men. What is defined as ‘younger’ typically comes out as 8 years, but we don’t think a woman dating a man 7 years younger than her is instantly not a cougar because he’s a year off.

We believe that the best definition for a cougar is:

A female above the age of 30 that seeks romantic and/or sexual engagement with a younger man that is in a distinctly separate physical and social category than the average man of their own age.

A central aspect of being a cougar is embracing men of a younger age because they act and look different to men their own age. We think this definition best covers those qualities, although we agree it’s quite a mouthful!

What is a cub?

A much easier question! A cub is the target of a cougar. They’re younger men that like older women.

Is being a cougar a sexual thing?

Cougars are typically looking for casual sex and dating, although this is not to say some older women don’t prefer the idea of having a serious relationship with cubs. We think sex is an important part of any relationship, but you might find cougars treat it as an end (sexual pleasure) more so than a means to an end (intimacy to build a close, loving relationship) that standard relationships would have.

Put simply, cougars are more likely to treat their desire for cubs as a preference of a sexual kind rather than one of a romantic or spousal nature.

How do I meet cubs?

There are lots of options available to you. We've even done a blog post on finding cubs as a cougar before. If you want our honest opinion, then we recommend you sign up to a cougar dating site where you’re guaranteed to find young men. From time to time, we also make posts regarding specific hunting ground for cougars/cubs in different areas. If you happen to be a Cincinnati cougar here’s a list, for instance.

When is a good time to be a cougar?

Becoming a cougar is timed best when you become tired, bored, disillusioned or simply unsuccessful with men your own age. Younger men have a number of advantages and can really reignite your passion and desire for life again. We like to think that every mature woman is a cougar in some sense (that is to say that they’re willing to have relationships with young men, even though it might not be their immediate preference) and like to believe cubs are just as eligible as older men when it comes to being a good partner.

Is being a cougar taboo?

This totally depends on whether we define taboo as being what is logically unethical as opposed to what is considered to be unethical by society. We have yet to stumble across a single reason why cougar and cub relationships are bad and until we do, we’ll work on the theory that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with a cub and a cougar dating.

Some might not like the idea of older women exploring their sexuality. Some might not like the idea of young men having a preference for mature ladies: we think that these people are silly, and that there is no reason to not be a cougar – or a cub – if that is your desire.
